Tom Hales (thales@kyinnovation.com) has been named the new manager of the Paducah Innovation and Small Business Center (ISBC). Tom joins the Innovation team bringing with him more than thirty years of senior executive experience. Tom will be assisting any / all small businesses in the Purchase Area and his office is located in the Commerce Center, 401 Kentucky Avenue, Paducah. The Paducah ISBC serves as the one-stop shop for area entrepreneurs to receive assistance from both the ICC (Innovation and Commercialization Center) and the SBDC (Small Business Development Center). The Paducah ISBC is affiliated with Murray State University.
We are also pleased to report that in our most recent cycle of applicants for the Kentucky Enterprise Fund (KEF), we received grant awards, which totaled $92,500 for four companies (projects). The ICC screens applicants for the KEF in our region. The amount of KEF awards made in the western region now exceeds $650,000. The most recent award winners are:

Also, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky recently (June 1, 2006), we were pleased to present a $100,000 Rural Innovation Fund, Level II award to NuatraSoft, a business-to-business software client. This award is part of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, Kentucky Enterprise Fund administered by the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation (http://www.kstc.com). The award funds will allow NuatraSoft to achieve some critical business milestones.
The Western Region ICC office now has some meaningful traction in the development of small businesses (both high tech and high growth). We have assisted 25 clients in meeting their needs as they develop high growth projects in the 20 counties of western Kentucky. The clients have received over $8 million in private investments for their projects which in most cases involve patents with the US Patent and Trademark Office. Also, these clients have added over 65 jobs since becoming clients of the ICC office.

Western Region Innovation and Commercialization Center – Murray
This is one of the six (6) active ICC’s in the state. The office is affiliated with the Murray State University Regional Business and Innovation Center (RBIC) and the Western Regional Emerging Technology Center in Murray, Kentucky. The RBIC has limited space for business tenants seeking to accelerate their high-growth projects.
